Even Ground
Three people are in the room. Most prevention only reaches one.
When an older adult is targeted, three people are usually involved: the professional who notices something, the family member who gets the call, and the older adult who has to say no while a stranger is still on the line.
Most tools built for this problem reach one of the three and hope the other two work it out. Even Ground is Larigent's family-facing program - built from the same framework we teach professionals, translated into what a family actually needs to do.
For Older Adults
For Families
The call usually comes after.
Most families reach this problem in the wrong order - something has already happened, a parent is embarrassed, a bank wants a police report, and nobody in the family has ever had to make these decisions before.
Even Ground covers what the first hours actually require, what can still be recovered, and how to talk with a parent about it without taking away the independence they have every right to keep. That last part is where families most often get it wrong, usually out of love - pulling away someone's independence tends to end the conversation for good, which drives the next incident underground instead of preventing it.
What families get:
Plain-language guidance on the tactics we're seeing right now
A guide to having the “money conversation” with a parent, before anything happens
A clear, step-by-step next-action list if something already has
You don't have to know which scam it is.
Every version of this needs the same three things from you: your fear, your silence, and a payment that can't be undone. Take away any one of the three and the attempt fails.
That's why we don't publish lists of current scams - lists go stale fast, and they mostly train people to be suspicious of everything, which is exhausting and doesn't actually help you tell a real call from a fake one. What helps is knowing the shape of the pressure.
Four signs, in any combination:
they made you afraid and then made it urgent
they told you not to tell anyone
they want payment in a form that can't be undone
and they called you first.
Three moves:
hang up and call back on a number you look up yourself
agree on a family password before you ever need one
if it's a computer warning, turn the machine off at the power button rather than clicking anything.
Being targeted isn't a failure of judgment. These are staffed operations running rehearsed scripts, aimed at everyone. The only thing that reliably makes it worse is staying quiet afterward out of embarrassment.
Even Ground materials come to you through someone who already works with you — a financial advisor, a family member, a senior living community, an agency. We don't sell them directly to you, and we don't advertise to you.
